A whole-body PET-CT — the scan oncologists use to search the entire body for metabolically active disease — is capped at ¥6,500 including the tracer drug in Shanghai, and priced at ¥6,248 in Guangdong. Several provinces cut imaging prices again in 2025. At well under US$1,000 in a top public hospital, this is a fraction of what the same scan bills for in most private systems, and the machines in China's flagship hospitals are current-generation.
What a screening trip looks like
Large public hospitals run dedicated checkup centers that process hundreds of clients daily: blood panels, imaging, cardiac screening, endoscopy where indicated — usually finished within one or two days, with results consolidated into a written report. Comprehensive packages at public centers commonly run from a few hundred to a couple of thousand US dollars depending on depth. It pairs naturally with a trip: many visitors schedule screening around travel to Nanning or Guangzhou.
